A particular focus of my work is the promotion of young medical professionals. For many years, I have been deeply involved in teaching, training and mentorship students as well as the next generation of cardiac surgeons.
I have more than 30 years of international teaching experience and have been involved in medical education and training in, among other countries, Australia, Germany, England, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Argentina, and Iraq. In doing so, I place great importance on close interdisciplinary collaboration and continuous professional exchange.
A core component of my clinical practice is the regular interdisciplinary discussion of complex cases within multidisciplinary team meetings. In an advisory role, I support the development of individualized and patient-centered treatment strategies.
In addition, I serve as a mentor to colleagues, particularly in the fields of minimally invasive cardiac surgery and complex aortic surgery. The structured transfer of knowledge, surgical expertise, and clinical experience is of special importance to me.
I supervise and mentor scientific projects by MPhil, MD, and PhD students and, for many years, served as an examiner for the Saxon State Medical Association in the fields of Cardiac Surgery and Intensive Care Medicine.
In the past, I have also worked as an international advisor, consultant, and proctor for several leading global medical technology companies.
Another major focus of my work lies in the field of clinical and scientific research. I have been and continue to be actively involved in numerous national and international studies and have played a key role in the development and implementation of evidence-based treatment strategies in cardiac surgery. My scientific work consistently follows international guidelines and current medical standards.
This many years of research activity are reflected in more than 320 peer-reviewed scientific publications and over 20 book chapters. The close integration of clinical practice and scientific research forms the foundation for the continuous advancement of modern cardiac surgical treatment concepts.
My extensive surgical experience, with nearly 8,000 cardiac surgical procedures performed, further complements and supports my scientific work. The combination of clinical expertise and research enables the practical investigation of complex medical questions and allows for meaningful and sustainable contributions to the ongoing development of cardiac surgery.
